Molding

Metal Injection Molding (MIM) follows a process similar to plastic injection molding, utilizing comparable equipment and techniques. A pelletized feedstock, composed of fine metal powders and a binder, is heated to approximately 200°C and injected under high pressure into a mold cavity, forming a “green part.” Once cooled, the part is ejected, enabling a continuous and efficient production cycle.

The binder ensures uniform distribution of metal powders during injection, while multi-cavity molds enhance efficiency for high-volume manufacturing. To account for shrinkage during sintering, mold cavities are designed about 20% larger, with precise shrinkage rates calculated based on the specific material composition, ensuring dimensional accuracy in the final component.

After injection molding, the component enters the debinding phase, where binder materials are carefully removed while maintaining structural integrity. Solvent extraction is commonly used for efficient binder removal, minimizing distortion and ensuring a stable form.
